How it Works

Step 1 - Choose Your Size of Batch

Choose the size of batch that you would like to make with us - 11.5L or 23L.

Step 2 - Choose Your Honey

Choose if you would like to use honey we source, or if you would like to bring in your own.

The style of honey has a huge impact on the final flavour of the honey wine.

The honey we use is Wildflower honey from the Monte Lake area. Wildflower honey has floral, earthy, and occasional fruity notes. Taste varies season to season, depending on the flowers that are around at the time.

If you bring in your own honey, you will need 6kg for a 23L batch, or 3kg for a 11.5L batch.

Step 3 - Pitch the Yeast

Come into store to pay for your mead and pitch the yeast. Although only taking a few minutes, this is the most important step in making with us and is a legal requirement.

If you are going to use your own honey, you will need to bring it in at this point!

Step 4 - Let Us Do The Work

Your mead will be ready to bottle in approximately 8-12 weeks. During this time, you can sit back and relax while we do the rest.

Our team will be caring for your mead while it ferments, clears, imparts flavour, and settles until it is ready to bottle.

Step 5 - Call to Make an Appointment to Bottle

When your batch is ready to bottle we will contact you - then you can make an appointment to bottle.

The number of bottles you will require are noted below on this page. If you would like to save any bottles that you have already, simply rinse them out after drinking and bring them with you on the bottling day. If you do not have any bottles at home, you are welcome to buy bottles from us on the day. If you intend to use cans we will provide these on the day.

Step 6 - Bottle Your Mead!

On your appointment day, come in to bottle your honey wine! If it is your first time, or if you need a refresher, our friendly team will lead you through the entire process.

It is best practice to sanitize your bottles prior to bottling. We have a sanitizing machine that automatically sanitizes your bottles in 2 minutes.

Bottling itself is a very easy process, whether you bottle into plastic bottles, glass bottles or cans. The whole process takes approximately 45 mins per 23L batch.

Step 7 - Age Your mead

This is an important step for mead - aging!

Mead takes a long time to age and would be best enjoyed after at least 3-6 months aging but would benefit from a year or more aging.

To age your mead you will need a cool, dark place with consistent temperature. You do not want your mead to referment and go bad, so this is very important.

Step 8 - Enjoy!

The easiest step of all - enjoy.

For the meads made from honey we source we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. This means that if you try your mead and it simply does not suit your taste, all you need to do is let us know and return your full bottles or cans. We will add a credit to your account and you can make another batch to find something that suits your taste. If still, you are unhappy, we will refund you entirely.
